Free Audio Books For The Ipod and other MP3 players

Posted December 27th, 2009 by Admin

Thanks to some really wonderful folks on the internet, there are hundreds of free audio books available for children. Here are a few of our very favorites, click the picture to go there.:

Kiddierecords.com has scanned the picture books that were sold with the original records. Excellent Site!

To get them on your ipod:

    1. Create a folder in your audio books folder using the name of the book you want to download.

    2. Right click and save the image of the book cover then Right click and save the audio files. Make sure you are saving them to the folder you created in step 1.

    3. Once they have downloaded to your computer, open Itunes and drag the book folder to your music library.

    4. Select all of the mp3 files that go with your book by highlighting the first one, holding the shift key down, and highlighting the last one. Note about m3u files, delete any continuous playlists, if present.

    5. Once they are selected (in blue), right click, select option “Get Info”.

    6. Under the tab for get info, you’ll see a tab titled “info”: change genre to “Books” and select “part of compilation”.

    7. Under the tabs you’ll also see, “Options”: Change Media Kind to “Audiobook” and check “Remember playback position.

    8. Under the tabs you’ll also see “Artwork”, select “Add” then select your book cover image from the listing in the folder you created earlier.

Once “Okay” is selected, Itunes will move the mp3 files from your music library to your audiobooks library along with the book cover.

*Note: If when you selected Get Info, everything is in ghost, you will need to convert your file to AAC Format, then make the changes above. You can get to the Convert to AAC when you right click for the “Get Info” option – it’s on the same sub menu list.

Happy Listening.

Other fun sites:

Audio Owl
*Audio owl’s Ipod option places them into Itunes as a podcast. You can change the “Get Info” to an audiobook and this will place it in the audiobooks folder with the artwork, however, a copy will remain in your podcast folder.
